1. Apologies
There were no apologies.
2. Minutes
The minutes of the meeting held on the 1st November 2011 were approved.
3. Matters Arising
The work on the 9th hole has proceeded according to plan
Some areas of the re-laid turf on the 3rd green have sunk a little and will need soil and dressing
to bring them up to the correct level.
The 7th tee has been re-levelled and turfed. Gary explained that the front part of the tee cannot
be built up to the height of the back tee as this obscures part of the green when playing from the
back tee.
The repair of the left hand bridge over river at the 7th is now complete with a new wooden floor,
edging and Astroturf.
Work on raising the base of the bunkers on 2nd and 18th has been carried out and this should
satisfy members’ concerns.
The additional bunker on the main practice ground has been laid out and will be constructed
shortly. Soil has been tipped to the right of the practice green and this will be turfed in the next
week or so. This levels out the bank on the right of the green and will create additional chipping
areas. These are the initial improvements to our practice facilities which will be developed over
the next couple of years.
4. Managing Secretary’s Report
Progress is being made in relation to the proposed O2 telephone mast. Derek circulated
photomontages showing ‘before and after’ images. A planning application is currently being
made by O2. The club will be provided with a new purpose built chemical store to replace the old
one which will be demolished to make way for the mast.
Letters have been received from Mike and John Rodwell concerning the winter tees used by the
club. Every effort has been made to provide members with top quality winter tees and additional
permanent tees are on order. It was confirmed that virtually all winter mats will freeze particularly
those filled with sand. Tom will reply to these letters.
We expect to receive quotes for lining the water tank this week. Gary has requested that a
specialist firm carry out this work as the liner will need to be secured to the inside of the tank
walls and connected to the water supply. Any problems in these areas will result in damage to
the liner and potential for water leaks. It was agreed that we should contract out this work.
The new double practice net will be located next to the ladies changing rooms facing the 14th
fairway. These will be constructed by our course staff and Gary will visit Bristol & Clifton to view
their nets.
Colin Jackson has been proposed for the vacancy on the committee. Hugh is uncertain as to
whether he intends to re-stand for election and will make a decision today. Hugh subsequently
decided not to stand.
5. Course Manager’s Report
Gary will circulate the projected course work schedule for February following this meeting when
he has been able to determine a priority for the various tasks required.
The geo-textile path at the front of the 1st tee will be laid in April when temperatures will permit
seed germination.
Gary advised the meeting that the course had taken a ‘bit of a hammering’ this winter due to the
warm weather conditions and the amount of play this had encouraged. It will take some
additional time this year to bring the course back to good condition and repair the worn areas.
6. Any Other Business
Lynne advised the meeting that she had received a letter from Annie Hill outlining her difficulties
going down the path to the 3rd tee and requesting a hand rail she can hold on to. This subject
has been debated on and off over the last 4 years and there seems little more that we can do.
The rail is not there for holding on to as both hands are normally used by members to hold the
trolley going down the slope. It is there as a safeguard/leaning rail in the event of a slip. Alan has
subsequently agreed to meet Annie Hill on site and look into her concerns in relation to the path.
Hugh raised proposals for ‘flattening’ the 10th fairway and improving the practice green to the
right of that fairway. He was asked to submit costed proposals.
A discussion took place concerning the 14th, 15th and 16th fairways. It was agreed that the tining
and top dressing exercise carried out on the 16th fairway in the autumn has produced improved
growth and the committee decided to repeat this procedure and moss kill in the spring. We will
monitor the results before considering any additional work on these areas.
Tom advised that members were still asking if a decision had been made concerning the
removal of the bunker in the centre of the 1st fairway. It was agreed to put this on the agenda for
the
Lynne asked Gary to look at fairway carries for the ladies. A course walk will be arranged before
the main playing season to look at these.
Alan suggested a wider entry to the putting green to avoid the repeated wear experienced on the
current approach. Gary will arrange to provide an improved entry but this will need the removal of
some hedging.
It was agreed that the slitting of the fairways was a little rough in places and Gary will check the
tines used before any future operations.
The next meeting of the committee will be held on Tuesday 6th March commencing at 1pm.
